GLASBA /INSTRUMENTALNA GLASBA
6th INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR WIND ORCHESTRAS IN CONCERT PERFORMANCEJesenice and Kranjska Gora, May 19th – 20th, 2018Slovenian Fund for Cultural Activities, Slovenian Wind Orchestras Society and Croatian Cultural Association organizing an International competition for wind orchestras in concert performances. Until now the previous international competitions have been in Koper, Velenje and Novo mesto, with participation of 62 Wind Orchestras from 13 different countries. The Jury members have been renowned experts: Nikolaj Žličar, Simon Robinson, Reinhold Rogg, Evžen Zamečnik, Tomislav Fačini, Isabelle Ruf-Weber, Alojz Zupan, Siegmund Andraschek, John Stanley, Leon Bly and Trevor J. Ford. In 2017 will be a part of cultural events during cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia.
PARTICIPANTSThe competition is open to all non-professional wind orchestra from Europe and World.
APPLICATIONOrchestra should send to the organizer their application, consisting of:
Short description, scores and good photography of the orchestra could be sent by e-mail to daniel.leskovic@jskd.si Wind orchestras must register not later than on Friday, February 9th, 2018. Written documents should be sent in a sealed envelope to the address: Selected wind orchestras will with Artistic Council decision receive invoice for non refundable enrolment fee of 300,00 €, which should be paid till May 2018. Selected orchestras will be obliged to send 4 additional copies of other competing compositions for the members of the Jury and the list of musicians till April 1st, 2018.
PROGRAMThe Sixth Competition is going to be held in Concert Hall in Jesenice, from May 18th till 20th 2018. Competition will be in three categories.
Artistic Council selected the following Competition program: Orchestras, competing in A (lower) category, shall perform:WARMING-UP COMPOSITION: nonobligatory, not longer than 3 minutes COMPULSORY COMPOSITION (one piece from the list):
COMPOSITION/TRANSCRIPTION OF THEIR OWN CHOICE: difficulty 3 or C – it should be a symphonic transcription. The whole performance should not be longer than 30 minutes.
Orchestras, competing in B (middle) category, shall perform:WARMING-UP COMPOSITION: nonobligatory, not longer than 3 minutes COMPULSORY COMPOSITION (one piece from the list): Tomaž Habe: ZGODBE IZ POD PECE, Edition ZSG* Tonći Ćićerić: MORLAČKI PLES, Edition HRSK** John Barnes Chance: VARIATIONS ON COREAN FOLK SONG, Edition Boosey & Hawkes COMPOSITION/TRANSCRIPTION OF THEIR OWN CHOICE: difficulty 4 or D - it should be a symphonic transcription. The whole performance should not be longer than 40 minutes.
Orchestras, competing in C (higher) category, shall perform:WARMING-UP COMPOSITION: nonobligatory, not longer than 3 minutes COMPULSORY COMPOSITION (one piece from the list): Jani Golob, arr. Mitja Dragolič: SLOVENSKA RAPSODIJA, Edition DSS*** Mladen Tarbuk: HRVATSKA SUITA, Edition Johan de Meij: EXTREME BEETHOVEN, Edition Amstel Music COMPOSITION/TRANSCRIPTION OF THEIR OWN CHOICE: difficulty 5, 6 or E, F - it should be a symphonic transcription. The whole performance should not be longer than 50 minutes.

JURY AND AWARDSCompetition will be adjudicated by International Jury of 5 renowned experts on wind orchestras. Each member of the jury will evaluate all competitive performances of each orchestra with numeric mark and text. Evaluation criteria are: intonation, sound, rhythm and tempo consistency, playing technique, dynamics and phrasing, artistic impression of concert performance. International Jury will give following awards: - The Golden Medal with an honor for the wind orchestras achieving at least 90% points; The Jury will also reward the best orchestras with monetary awards. Jury could give also the award for the best performance of compulsory composition. Jury can also propose some additional awards and diplomas. All decisions of the Jury are final without any right of appeal. Jury’s decision (plaquetes) without points will be made public at least two hours after the completion of the competition Category. Each orchestra will receive plaquetes and written opinion from all members of the Jury during the closing ceremony at the end of the competition.
GENERAL INFORMATIONCourse of competition and its realisation is fully covered in the Regulations of the Competition that can be obtained from the organiser. Selected wind orchestras can change their program or cancel participation at the competition no later than on April 1st, 2018. The Artistic Council (Mitja Dragolič, Josip Kapović and Gašper Salobir) must be informed if any changes are made in the composition of the orchestra once the registration form has been sent and shall inform the president of the jury before the competition at the latest. Travel, accommodations and food are at expenses of the participating wind orchestras. However, the Organizer can provide some pecuniary options for orchestra wishing to stay overnight or having meals in Jesenice. The Organizing Committee will provide percussion and additional instruments recorded in compulsory compositions. Wind orchestras overstaying in Jesenice will have possibility to rehearse in a rehearsal hall. Orchestras who wish to do any sightseeing or playing a concert during their stay may contact Organizer for further details. The Organizer and Artistic Council reserve the right to modify the planned events to ensure the positive results of the Competition. If the number of the participants in a single category is not sufficient, the Organizers may cancel that category. The Organizer are not responsible for any eventual mishaps, loses, thefts, or any accidents to persons or things during their journey or during the competition. Organizer has the right to audio and video record and broadcast the competition with no compensation being paid to the wind orchestras and to use such recordings for promotional purposes. Competing wind orchestras allow their performances at the competition to be publicly released. Any complaints regarding the rules and regulation of the competition must be made to the organizers. Only the Slovene, Croatian and English language will be taken into consideration.
